چکیده

The prototype example of frame dragging arises in the Kerr metric. A test particle with zero angular momentum released from a nonrotating frame, far from the source of the Kerr metric, accumulates nonzero angular velocity in the same angular direction as the source of the metric, as the test particle plunges toward the origin (in Boyer-Lindquist coordinates). This “dragging of inertial frames,” or frame dragging, is due to the influence of gravity alone, and has no counterpart in Newtonian physics. Frame dragging is a general relativistic feature, not only of the exterior Kerr solution, but of all solutions to the Einstein field equations associated with rotating sources. In this paper we show that surprising frame dragging anomalies can occur

Frame Dragging Anomalies for Rotating Bodies

Examples of axially symmetric solutions to Einstein's field equations are given that exhibit anomalous " negative frame dragging " in the sense that zero angular momentum test particles acquire angular velocities in the opposite direction of rotation from the source of the metric.

Frame Dragging in Black Hole-pulsar Binaries

The discovery of frame-dragging effects in binary pulsar timing experiments requires a compact companion with sufficiently large spin. A pulsar orbiting a fast rotating black hole could provide an appropriate test system. In this paper we address questions concerning the identification of a black hole companion in such a system, the measurability of the frame dragging caused by the rotation of ...

Inertial Frame Dragging and Mach's Principle in General Relativity

We define a new parameter 'cumulative drag index' for a particle in circular orbit in a stationary, axisymmetric gravitational field and study its behaviour in the two well known solutions of general relativity viz., the Kerr spacetime and the Gödel spacetime, wherein the inertial frame dragging has an important role. As it shows similar behaviour for both co and counter rotating particles, it ...

Comment on "gravitomagnetic influence on gyroscopes and on the lunar orbit".

Gravitomagnetism--a motional coupling of matter analogous to the Lorentz force in electromagnetism--has observable consequences for any scenario involving differing mass currents. Examples include gyroscopes located near a rotating massive body and the interaction of two orbiting bodies. In the former case, the resulting precession of the gyroscope is often called "frame dragging" and is the pr...

Experiment to Detect Frame Dragging in a Lead Superconductor

Recent work by Tajmar and de Matos predicts a greatly enhanced gravitomagnetic field is measurable in the vicinity of a rotating superconductor. They predict that the associated frame dragging is measurable when the density of Cooper pairs is sufficiently large relative to the mass density. Experimental measurements with superconducting lead and niobium samples reported by the same group suppor...
